Coalescent Mobile Robotics is a Danish technology company[1] specializing in the development and implementation of innovative mobile robotic solutions. Founded in September 2018[2], Coalescent Mobile Robotics has emerged as a pioneer in the integration of autonomous mobile robots in the retail sector, reshaping the landscape of traditional grocery operations.[3]

Founded by Clionadh Martin[4],she currently serves as Chief Technology Officer, Oskar Lauritzen as Chief Executive Officer.[5]

History

[edit]

Initially affiliated with the Start-Up Hub, Coalescent Mobile Robotics was officially inaugurated in Odense, Denmark. A significant milestone occurred in August 2021 when the company, associated with the Odense Robotics Start-Up Hub, successfully concluded a first substantial investment round.[6][7]

On July 11th, 2023, Coalescent Mobile Robotics closed its seed funding round with SuperAngel and EIFO as lead investors, further fueling the development of the next generation of Autonomous Mobile Robots.[8] [9]

The robot has been named Serena, after tennis star Serena Williams, because, according to Clionadh Martin, CEO of Coalescent Mobile Robotics, she is strong, influential and not afraid to challenge the status quo.[10]

Robotics in Retail

[edit]

The deployment of robots at Bilka's department store in Odense marked a significant milestone, representing the world's first instance of robots assisting with in-store tasks.[11][12]

Serena operates in collaboration with Bilka employees, particularly in the Bilka To Go service[13], streamlining processes and reducing physical strain on staff.[14]

Recognition and Awards

[edit]

Coalescent Mobile Robotics' groundbreaking work in the field of mobile robotics has earned accolades, including recognition in the Zero Distance Awards by the Business Ecosystem Alliance.[15]

Coalescent Mobile Robotics, has been one of finalists for the Odense Robotics Company of the Year Award during Odense Robotics AWARDS 2024[16]
