Club Cataluya was a football soccer club that played in Mexico City during the golden age of soccer in the 1920s . The club now plays in the Liga Espanola De Futbol De Mexico un der the na me Barcelona .

History

Club was founded in 1917[1] by the local Spaniard community from the Catalan region , the club was known to only be form by players of that region.The club was trying to join the Campeonato de Primera Fuerza which was at the moment the top tier football league in Mexico by hiring Percy Clifford a legend in the introduction of the sport in Mexico .In 1918 the club won the Segunda Fuerza.Al tho the club played some of the best football for its time the club fail to earn the promotion to the first division which in 1923 cost the club to split up having some of its best player to leave and join first division clubs such as Club Asturias and Real Club España .

The club has participated in the national Spaniard Amateur League in Mexico , The club alternatives between Cataluya and Barcelona name and uniform since the 1940s.

The club was surrounded by many clubs from Spain who had adopted their local regional flag colors and Club Cataluya did just that , their Jersey was a vertical yellow and red striped shirt which was inspired by the flag of Catalonia.
