Charu Pesi (born 30 September 2002) is an Indian Professional Weightlifter representing the state of Arunachal Pradesh in National Games and other National level events.
Personal life
[edit]Born to Charu Sonu and Charu Yale in Kurayer Village of Chambang administrative circle in Kra Daadi district (erstwhile Kurung Kumey) in 2002. He pursued his elementary education from various government schools in the periphery. He joined the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy in 2012 and started training in weightlifting upon the advise of the coaches based on his ability during the trial.
Career

[edit]In December 2017, Pesi bagged his first national level medal at the 63rd Khelo India School Games in Dispur in Assam where he struck a Bronze metal for Arunachal Pradesh in the 56 Kg category[1].
2018
[edit]In 2018, he clinched a Silver medal in the 64th National School Games held in Guwahati, Assam in the 61 Kg category[2].
2019
[edit]In the Khelo India Youth Games held in Pune in January 2019 he won a silver in the 61 Kg category. In Youth and Junior National Weightlifting Championship held in Bodh Gaya in October 2019 in 61 Kg category. Charu Pesi, created two national records, in the clean & jerk and won the gold for Arunachal and became the national champion by lifting 112 kgs in snatch, and 142 kgs in clean & jerk – a total of 254 kgs[3].
2022
[edit]At the All India Inter University Weightlifting Championship held at Chandigarh University in March 2022, Pesi clinched a gold representing Prayagraj University. In the National Games of India held in September-October 2022 in Gujarat, Pesi won the first gold medal for Arunachal Pradesh and became 2nd athlete from Arunachal Pradesh to win a gold medal at the 36th National Games of India.
2023
[edit]at the 37th National Games held in Goa, Charu Pesi once agin clinched the gold medal to retain his championship from previous edition. [4]
