Cemvision is a Stockholm-based company.[1] The company is focused on developing low-carbon alternatives to reduce emissions in cement production.
History
[edit]The company was founded in 2020. In 2021, it announced its production of green cement in industrial demo, which reduces CO2 emission by up to 95% compared to traditional cement production.[2]
In October 2022, it was selected for the Breakthrough Energy Fellows program started by Bill Gates.[3][4]
In December 2023, the company signed its first contract with LKAB, an international mining and mineral group to supply green cement.[5]
In 2024, Cemvision was recognized as one of the world's most innovative companies by Fast Company.[6] The company also announced a new agreement with Vattenfall for the supply and development of low-carbon cement.[7][8][9] Rob Van Riet at the World Economic Forum described the agreement as" a significant milestone of the sector.[10]" The company also announced customer agreements and started deliveries to mining company LKAB and construction company Peab.[11]
Technology
[edit]The cement industry emits up to 8% of global CO2 emissions due to limestone heating and its inherent carbon content. Cemvision breaks this cycle by replacing conventional extraction and production of cement with near zero-emission alternatives. Cemvision's technology reduces CO2 emissions by up to 95% compared to the traditional Portland cement production.[2][11]
The company is one of few cement companies worldwide known to have reduce CO2 emissions to near zero while achieving industrial-scale production.[12]
Leadership
[edit]Oscar Hållén is the CEO of Cemvision. He previously worked for Klarna and as a speechwriter to the Swedish prime minister.[13][14] Claes Kollberg is the CTO and chair with extensive experience of building cement plants in Europe and Africa.[15] Another Co-founder is Paul Sandberg who holds 12 US patents and leads the company's cement chemistry efforts.[16]
Partnerships
[edit]Cemvision is a member of the World Economic Forum's First Suppliers Hub, a global repository of innovative and emerging products needed to decarbonize the world by 2050.[17]
Investors
