Cecilia Lunaparra is a member of the Berkeley City Council elected in 2024. She is the youngest person ever elected to serve on Berkeley's city council at 22 years of age. She is also the first undergraduate student and first queer women of color ever elected in Berkeley.[1]
Lunaparra was actively involved in various campus organizations at the University of California, Berkeley, advocating for a range of causes and community engagement. She served as President of Cal Berkeley Democrats, working to promote Democratic values and political involvement among students. Additionally, she contributed to Telegraph for People, a grassroots organization aiming to establish a pedestrian plaza on Telegraph Avenue and advocate for transit justice in the Southside community.[2]
Lunaparra's activism extended to her participation in the Cal Young Democratic Socialists of America, where she engaged in efforts including defending People's Park, advocating for a ceasefire in Palestine, and supporting workers' strikes. Collaborating with fellow activists and community members, she aimed to provide resources and support for students interested in driving progressive change on campus and beyond.
Lunaparra was born in Illinois and relocated with her family to Burlingame on the Bay Area Peninsula when she was 10 years old. She is fluent in Spanish and spent summers with her family in Mexico.[3]
