Cameron Nicole Roller (born June 21, 2005) is an American college soccer player who plays as a center back for the Duke Blue Devils. She was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) defender of the year as a sophomore in 2024.
Early life and college career
[edit]Roller was raised in Sherman, Texas, the daughter of Michael and Meghan Roller, and has two brothers.[1] She started playing soccer at age three and also played basketball and track growing up. She played club soccer for FC Dallas and then Solar SC, which required her mother to drive her two hours to Dallas every day.[2][3] She has cited Naomi Girma as a role model.[4][5] She was ranked by TopDrawerSoccer as the fifth-best recruit and the top defender of the 2023 class.[1] She committed to Duke over other offers including Florida State.[2] She attended Gunter High School.[1]
Duke Blue Devils
[edit]Roller recovered from spring stress fractures to become a starter for the Duke Blue Devils by the middle of her freshman season in 2023, earning Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) all-freshman honors. She assisted Kat Rader's last-minute equalizer in a 1–1 draw against North Carolina.[1][2] In her sophomore year in 2024, she helped lead Duke to the ACC regular-season title and national top ranking. She was named first-team All-ACC and the ACC defender of the year.[6][7]
International career
[edit]She received her first United States youth national team call-up at the under-15 level in 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic put the program on hold.[2] Two years later, she helped lead the under-17 team to the 2022 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship.[1][8] She captained the United States the the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, where they lost to Nigeria on penalties.[1][9] She was called into combined under-18/under-19 camp in 2023.[10]
