Oluwafemi Moses Brite Benson Giwa (born June 16, 1987), known professionally as Brite Benson and often referred to by his alias Local Boy[1], is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, performer, and actor[2][3]. Renowned for his Afrobeats and Afro-pop style, Benson incorporates subtle African elements and slang into his euphoric and melodic sound.

Life and career

[edit]

Born Delta State and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Benson started his musical journey in the church before transitioning to contemporary genres, blending R&B and Afrobeats into his artistry in 2012 with the release of Wine On The Master’s, which gained significant traction in the Nigerian music industry. His influences include Nigerian artists such as King Sunny Ade, Ayinla Omowura, Ebenezer Obey, and Fela Anikulapo Kuti.[4]

Based in the United States[5], Brite Benson frequently engages with older generations through visits to nursing homes, spreading joy and making a positive impact.[6] He aims to inspire change in the music world and achieve mainstream success.[7]

Performances

[edit]

Brite Benson has collaborated with artists such as Cameroonian pop star Adele Clarice[8], notably on his single Shokoyokoto.[9] His music often features vibrant visuals, with both thematic and technical excellence,[10] and has secured performances on Afro Soka Love, Lagos City Marathon, and International reggae wine festival.[11][12]
