Brian Mullins (born June 1975)[1] is an American businessman, inventor, and tech entrepreneur. He is currently the CEO of UK artificial intelligence company Mind Foundry.[2]
He is best known for co-founding the augmented reality company DAQRI,[3] one of the first providers of enterprise augmented reality solutions.[4][5]
Career and Education
[edit]Mullins received a bachelor’s degree from the US Department of Transport's Merchant Marine Academy. He then worked as an engineer at the Computer-Aided Operational Research Facility operated by the US DoT and spent three years as a consultant to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command in San Diego.[6][7]
In 2010, he co-founded the augmented reality company DAQRI and served as CEO from 2010 until 2017.[8][9] The company was later dissolved in 2019.[10][11]
In November 2016, he provided written and oral testimony to the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation on the subject of "exploring augmented reality".[12]
In 2019, he was appointed as CEO of the UK artificial intelligence company Mind Foundry.[13]
With Mullins as CEO, Mind Foundry closed two funding rounds in 2020[14][15] and 2023.[16] As of 2024, the company has 90 employees.[17]
He has given several talks on the subject of augmented reality, including a TED talk[18] and a TEDx talk.[19]
Awards and Recognition
[edit]Mullins received an Edison Award for Industrial Design with DAQRI in 2015.[20]
In 2016, he was named in CNBC's Disruptor 50 as CEO of DAQRI.[21]He was also named one of Goldman Sachs's “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs”.[22]
In April 2024, Mullins was among the first 101 inductees into the inaugural USA AWE XR Hall of Fame, recognising “the pioneers that built the AR and VR industry”.[23][24]
