Background

[edit]

"Bombs Away" was based off a Siouxsie and the Banshees song. According to Stewart Copeland: "'Bombs Away' was written off of a Siouxsie and the Banshees backing track, I changed the speed and did things to the EQ to the drum pattern. So with the desk, I can get my song playing, then press a switch, and there's Siouxsie singing away."[1]

Reception

[edit]

Mike Duquette of Far Out Magazine ranked "Bombs Away" number 61 in his ranking of all 70 of the Police's songs, stating "Copeland’s fascination with global political intrigue (his father was a charter member in what became the CIA) may have given him a leg (and an arm) up when dishing out killer drum licks. But it didn’t translate into the Police’s best songwriting."[2]
