Bekuretsion "Bokre" Gebrehiwot (ቦኽረጺዮን ገብረሂወት) was an Eritrean footballer who played as a right back for the Ethiopian national football team and Asmara Hamasien. He is best known for scoring a late match-winning goal from long distance against Ivory Coast in the group stage of the 1968 African Cup of Nations tournament.[1][2][3] He later fled to the United States of America during political unrest,[3] where he became a leader among the expatriate Eritrean community in Dallas, Texas.[1][4]

[edit]Gebrehiwot's daughter Semhar is the mother of Lily Yohannes, a professional footballer who plays for the United States women's national soccer team and Ajax.[3]
