ROBERT JOHN (BOB) BLASDALL (1945 -…)

Robert John (Bob) Blasdall is one of Australia’s most experienced screen editors. Based in Brisbane Queensland Australia, Blasdall commenced his career editing news film at BTQ 7 Brisbane in 1968.  Departing the television arena in 1971 Bob was employed by, and edited film for, Brisbane Film Production Company Martin Williams Films.  Blasdall departed Martin Williams in March 1976 to form his freelance film editing facility Short Cut Editing Service and is currently proprietor, CEO and chief editor of the Brisbane post production facility THEpostWORKS pty. Bob has editing for numerous producers including: Peter Hegedus, Dick Marks (Dick Marks: The Australian Film Company,) renowned pioneer underwater director of photography and director/producer Ben Cropp (Ben Cropp Productions,) Jason Markland (Markland Productions,) as well as John Stainton (The Best Picture Show Company.) Stainton was the producer director of “The Crocodile Hunter” featuring Steve Irwin.  Blasdall was the editor or the supervising editor on all of Stainton’s Best Picture Show Company programs and was co-editor with Saresh Assaye on the MGM production “Crocodile Hunter Collision Course, directed by Stainton.

Blasdall worked closely with producer John Schindler (Schindler Productions) and co-produced and edited two World War 2 Documentaries “Tigers and Snakes; The Krait Story,” which was a Penguin Award recipient for the program’s re-enactment sequence and “The Tragedy of the Montevideo Maru.”  In association with Schindler Blasdall also co-produced and edited the historical documentaries “Miracle of the mountains” and “By the Seats of Their Pants.”

In close association with presenter and producer Malcolm Florence (Dorado TV Cinema Productions) Blasdall was director/editor on sixteen programs of Australia’s earliest fishing genre productions including “Giant Blacks and Great Whites,” and “Great Whites of Dangerous Reef.”

In 2002 Blasdall was contracted by Andrew Ettingshausen (Escape Production Group) to provide edit facilities for Ettingshausen’s “Escape With ET” series.  Blasdall has been involved with this highly successful production since series three in 2002.  Ettingshausen has also produced episodes of “Fishing Escapes With ET’” for Discovery Channel Australasia edited by Bob Blasdall as well as another Ettingshausen series “Seafood Escape With Andrew Ettingshausen” produced for Network 10 Australia.  Currently Blasdall is post-production director, editor and writer of Ettingshausen’s now titled “Escape Fishing With ET” which is screened on national television on Network 10 Australia.

To date Blasdall has been involved in the production or post-production of more than 400 wildlife, action adventure and historical documentaries, television dramas and cinema productions. Blasdall has also edited hundreds of commercials for local, national and international companies.

Blasdall was inducted into the Brisbane Advertising and Design Club Hall of Fame and has been honoured by his peers for service to the Queensland Screen Industry with The ACS Queensland Branch Frank Hurley Award and he was the original recipient of the Queensland Screen Industry’s Kinetone Award.

For decades Blasdall has encouraged and acted as mentor to Queensland’s emerging film makers.  Several of these students are now highly acclaimed international directors of photography and cinema directors.

Bob Blasdall is married to producer Penny Wall and the couple currently reside in an 1870s built heritage listed cottage near the CBD in Petrie Terrace.
