Billa Ranga is a 1982 Indian Telugu-language action drama film directed by K. S. R. Das and starring Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu in the titular roles.[1] The film was a box office success.[2]

Plot

[edit]

Billa makes a living by stealing while Ranga robs those who earn unjustly. Ranga looks for police officer Raviraj, who separated him from his father Rajaram as a child. After Raviraj suspects that he is Rajaram's son, he sends Billa to kill him. Ranga explains his past to Billa about how his father Rajaram was skilled at throwing swords. Rajaram had threatened Rajaram and asked him to kill a police officer (who happens to be Billa's father Vishnu). His refusal meant that he had to die in Raviraj's custody.

Billa tells Ranga about his father Vishnu's past and how Raviraj also killed him too. Billa and Ranga join hands to confront their common enemy, Raviraj. Billa saves a girl from bullies and Ranga marries her. Ranga takes their daughter and leaves while Billa says that she is innocent. Raviraj thinks they are a danger to him and arrest Ranga and his wife. Billa saves Ranga from Raviraj and reveals that he is a CID officer.[2]

Reception

[edit]

The camaraderie between Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu's characters were appreciated.[4] The success of the film led to many action films to be subsequently made.[3]

Future

[edit]

A film with the same title starring Chiranjeevi's nephew Venkat Rahul was released in 2014 but was a box office flop.[5]

In 2020, it was reported that Ram Charan and Manoj Manchu, the son of the two lead actors, were going to reprise their roles in a remake of this film.[3]
