The Berean Standard Bible (BSB) is a translation of the Bible in contemporary English, in the public domain. The BSB was published in 2020 and produced by Bible Hub, Discovery Bible, OpenBible.com, and the Berean Bible Translation Committee.[1]

The name "Berean" comes from Acts 17:11: “Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true.”[2]

Translation Tiers

[edit]

Instead of only a single translation, the BSB is a part of a multi-tier translation system: an interlinear translation, a literal translation, a study translation (the BSB), and emphasized Bible.[3]

Comparison with other translations

[edit]

Berean describes the BSB as in the middle between a word-for-word translation and thought-for-thought translation, and as being between the English Standard Version and Christian Standard Bible.[4] Others describe the BSB as reading like the 1984 edition of the NIV, but more on the formal-equivalence segment.[5][6]

Public Domain

[edit]

On April 2023, Berean dedicated the entire text to the public domain.[7]

Due to the text being in the public domain, various third-party Bible web tools have defaulted to using the BSB:
