Draft:Berber crisis
The Berber crisis from 1949 to 1954 within the Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties (MTLD) was an internal crisis caused by the disagreement between activists and the party leadership over the definition of an Arab et Muslim Algeria, and the place of the Berber element.
The activists wanted an Algerian Algeria that would be multiethnic and recognize all the components of the country, including Berbernism. During this crisis, within the MTLD, the MTLD's France federation passed a motion that went against the party's ideas: «An Algerian Algeria conceived as Arab-Muslim.[1]».
