Beitou Depot (Chinese: 北投機場; pinyin: Běitóu Jīchǎng) is a depot for the Taipei Metro serving the Tamsui–Xinyi line and Xinbeitou branch line. It is located adjacently south of Fuxinggang metro station in Beitou District, Taipei, and its 42 acre campus also contains a recreational center accessible by the public.[1]
Overview
[edit]Beitou Depot was the first and largest depot in the Taipei Metro system to be completed, being commissioned on 28 March 1997 alongside the rest of the then Tamsui–Zhongshan segment of the Red line, while it first broke ground in July 1988.[1]
The depot also hosts extensive repair facilities, and it is not uncommon to find trains from other lines come for repairs. New rolling stock for yet unfinished lines are also generally tested, and used to also be stored at Beitou Depot, though due to capacity reasons future rolling stock is likely to be stored at Tucheng Depot on the Bannan line instead.
Facilites at Beitou Depot include areas for train parking, inspection, maintenance, major repairs, chassis and body cleaning, and wheel reprofiling, alongside hosting track and station maintenance equipment. Personnel training and system control is also conducted within the campus. Additionally, the Beitou Resort (Chinese: 北投會館; pinyin: Běitóu Hùigǔan), a recreation center containing a hotel, restaurant, classrooms, and various sports facilites is located within the campus and operated by the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation.[1]
