Battle of Bojong Kokosan or (Indonesian: Pertempuran Bojong Kokosan) was a battle that occurred when a convoy of British soldiers (Allies) who were about to strengthen their troops in Bandung was ambushed by Indonesian fighters in Bojong Kokosan, Parung Kuda, Sukabumi.
Ambush
[edit]The news received by the fighters stated that the Allied troops heading for Bandung 'only' consisted of hundreds of people accompanied by several armored vehicles and modern weaponry. At around 15.00, the vehicle guarding the Allied convoy was trapped in a hole prepared by fighters on a road flanked by two cliffs in the Bojong Kokosan area, the highway between Bogor-Sukabumi. Using a hit and run strategy, this fierce battle lasted for about two hours, before the Allied troops were finally able to continue their journey, even though gunfire was still going on along the way. The villages around this abandoned battle arena were then bombarded by the Royal Air Force.
Casualties
[edit]The ambush by soldiers escorted by several Stuart-type armored vehicles killed 50 British soldiers and injured hundreds of others, while 30 others were missing. The large number of British casualties sparked debate in the British Parliament and attracted world attention.
Hari Juang Siliwangi
[edit]Since 2004, the battle that occurred on December 9 1945 has been commemorated as Siliwangi Fighting Day or (Indonesian: Hari Juang Siliwangi.)
