Barbara Pozzo is an Italian legal scholar, UNESCO Chair holder, and member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. She serves as professor of Comparative Private Law at the University of Insubria's Department of Law, Economics and Culture. In 2019, she was awarded the UNESCO Chair on "Gender Equality and Women's Rights in the Multicultural Society," and in 2024, she was elected as a corresponding member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei in the Legal Sciences category. She currently serves as the President of the Italian Society for Research in Comparative Law (SIRD).

Education

Born in Calcutta, India, Pozzo completed her primary and secondary education at the Swiss School system, attending institutions in Milan and Rome before obtaining the Swiss Federal Maturity in 1983. She received her law degree in 1989 and completed three cycles of study at the University of Strasbourg's Faculté Internationale de Droit Comparé under the Promotion Ernst von Caemmerer.

Her postdoctoral research was conducted at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg (1989-1993), Florida International University (1989), and Berkeley Law School (1992, 1998).
