Sarah Charlotte, known professionally as Baltimöre Charlót is an Australian musician and producer based in Hobart, Tasmania. She has produced, mixed and released two EPs and has directed multiple music videos.
Career
[edit]2017- 2019: Early releases - Skin Scenes and Metamorphosis
[edit]In July 2017, Charlotte produced her first single "Skin Scenes" under the singular name "BALTIMÖRE" which received her first Triple J Unearthed airplay. Later in the same year, she was invited by Music Tasmania to perform at the 2017-2018 Falls Festival held in Marion Bay, Tasmania.[1]
On March 2019, she released her debut EP "Metamorphosis" which she named after Franz Kafka's famous book of the same name. In an interview with Tasmanian music magazine WARP, Charlotte describes the EP as dealing with "identifying oneself" and the "certain struggles that go along with so". "Metamorphosis" incorporates mid-tempo hip-hop, dark pop and mainstream pop. The EP includes four tracks "Serpents", "Skin Scenes", "Eulogy" and "Like You" featuring Adelaide pop duo China Roses - all written and produced by Charlotte.[2] "Eulogy" was added to rotation on Triple J Unearthed and also featured in their "If You Like... Mallrat" special.[3]
2019: Girlosophy
[edit]On 18 September 2019, Baltimöre Charlót released "Girlosophy" (also known as "Girlosophy (xo). Charlotte describes making the song as an almost "out of the blue" experience. She stated how she "wanted to do a song that brought back a 90's R&B vibe", inspired by earlier Timbaland and Usher records. In terms of the production style, Charlotte stated how the particular kicks and snares used in the song "nailed" the outcome for her.[4] On 10 November 2019,"Girlosophy" was the main feature in Triple J's Something More program, presented by Tim Shiel.[5] Charlotte was also involved in a "prank" call organised by Shiel in another Something More special later that month.[6]
2022 - 2023 Comeback and music-video era
[edit]After a 2 year hiatus, Baltimöre Charlót returned to producing music supported with a string of music videos. On November 2022, Music Tasmania featured Charlót's first ever music video for her song "Claws", which was co-directed by Tasmania filmmaker and director Bree Sanders.[7] On February 2023, Charlót premiered the video for her song "Talk Sh!t" on Youtube. In under a week, the video surpassed 10,000 views on the platform.[8] In July that same year, Charlót premiered the video for another song called "Addicted", which to this day has gained over 25,000 views on Youtube.[9] Later that year, Charlót scored a featured slot in the lineup for Vibestown Productions HAYDAYS festival, held at Cornelian Bay in Tasmania. The festival also featured the likes of FOALS, Confidence Man, Genesis Owusu and Cub Sport, and attracted thousands of "music lovers" and "party-goers"[10]
2024: BRAZIL
[edit]On 17 October 2024, Baltimöre Charlót released her first conceptual EP titled "BRAZIL". The EP was distributed in the method Charlotte often utilises with her releases - releasing it on Bandcamp first then on Spotify. "BRAZIL" features three tracks: "BRAZIL", "GAME" and "DYLM" - the first two releases receiving support and airplay by Triple J Unearthed and Edge Radio 99.3FM.[11]
Prior to the EP's release, Vibetown Productions' renowned festival Party in the Paddock announced the full lineup for their 2024 program.[12] Along with mainland / international features from Empire of the Sun, Aurora, Amyl and the Sniffers and local features from Lasca Dry, Grace Chia, Tai Harlii and Morality Trope, Charlót will be marking her debut slot in the festival.[13]
On 1 November 2014, Charlót premiered the music video for "BRAZIL" on her official Youtube channel. The video was again co-directed and colour graded by collaborator Bree Sanders, who also worked on the previous videos for "Claws", Talk Sh!t" and "Addicted". The video has gained just above 15,000 views since its day of premiere on Youtube.[14]
