Avar dialects (Avar: Авар свералаби, romanized: Avar sweralabi) are the various traditional local varieties of the Avar language. The Avar dialects are divided into groups of Northern and Southern superdialects. Phonetic, morphological and lexical differences are noted between individual dialects and dialect groups in general.[1]
Classification
[edit]The Avar dialects are subdivided into northern and southern dialectal groups.
Northern group
[edit]- Bolmats
- Central (or Khunzakh) dialect
- East dialect
- West dialect
The distribution area of this group mainly includes the Buynaksk, Khunzakh, Kazbek, Khargabi, Kizilyurt, Onsokolo districts of Resbuplic of Dagestan.
Southern group
[edit]- Antsukh dialect;
- Andalian dialect;
- Batlukh dialect;
- Hid dialect;
- Hochota dialect;
- Karakh dialect;
- Zakatala dialect.
Dialects of the southern dialect are common in the Gunib, Shamil's, Charada, Tlyarata district of the of Dagestan. The Zakatala dialect is widespread in the Zakatala and Balakan regions of Azerbaijan.
