Avadi S. Varalakshmi (born February 2, 1979) is an Indian poet, social media personality, and film lyricist. She began her journey in Tamil literature and later transitioned into the Tamil film industry as a lyricist. Over the years, Varalakshmi has earned recognition for her contributions to Tamil poetry and cinema, as well as her active involvement in Tamil literary and cultural movements.

Early Life and Education

Avadi S. Varalakshmi was born in Kolappakkam, a village near Porur, Tamil Nadu, on February 2, 1979 (though her original birth date is recorded as September 29, 1978). She is the fifth daughter of Late Mr. G. Dasarathan naidu and Ms. G. Kuppabhai. Her father is an employee at the Heavy Vehicle Factory (HVF) in Avadi and a farmer. Growing up, Varalakshmi often assisted her father in farming, while also fostering a deep passion for writing poetry (kavidhai) and participating in literary competitions. She completed her early education at Kolappakkam Middle School and Kovur Higher Secondary School. In 1998, later, in 2015, After marriage she earned a Diploma in Pharmacy from Jaya Pharmacy College, expanding her academic qualifications.

Personal Life

At the age of 18, on October 5, 1995, Avadi S. Varalakshmi married Mr. B. Seshasainathan, who initially managed a cable network business before shifting to running a pharmacy and clinic. The couple has two sons: S. Moth Kalyan, born on June 22, 1996, and S. V. Kamlesh, born in 2002. They currently reside in Poongulil Nagar, Avadi.

Literary Career

Varalakshmi's passion for literature, particularly Tamil poetry, began at a young age. She actively participated in oratory and poetry contests, such as Pechu Poti and Kavithai Poti, during her school years. Her love for writing continued into adulthood, and in 2017, she began sharing her literary works on social media platforms, particularly Facebook. Her contributions to Tamil literature, through poetry and debates, garnered significant attention within Tamil literary communities online. In 2018, Varalakshmi began participating in Kavi Arangam (poetry gatherings), where she performed under the guidance of prominent Tamil literary figure Thiru. Pala Nedumaran. Her involvement in the Tamil literary movement grew stronger as she joined Tamil Iyakkam, an organization led by Thiru G. Vishwanathan, in the same year. Her writing and active participation in Tamil cultural forums earned her several accolades, including:

  • Bharathi Award from Indian politician and businessman Mr. Ma Foi K. Pandiarajan. Sirantha Kavingar Viruthu from the Tamil Sangam.
  • Varalakshmi’s literary contributions continue to receive recognition, particularly in the realms of social media and Tamil cultural organizations.

Film Career

In 2019, Avadi S. Varalakshmi made her debut in the Tamil film industry as a lyricist for the movie Ivan Kaval Karan. Her talent for lyric writing was quickly recognized, and she went on to contribute lyrics to several other films, including Risk, Haram Hara, and Arasi. Over the course of her film career, she has written a total of 27 songs. In addition to songwriting, Varalakshmi has also ventured into film distribution and production, working on projects across Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema. Contributions to Tamil Iyakkam. From 2018 to 2024, Avadi S. Varalakshmi served as the Tiruvallur District Chairman for Tamil Iyakkam, a cultural organization founded by VIT Chancellor Mr.G.Vishwanathan During her tenure, she organized numerous literary and cultural programs aimed at promoting Tamil literature and language. Her leadership within Tamil Iyakkam further cemented her position as a key figure in the Tamil literary community.

In addition to her work as a lyricist and poet, Avadi S. Varalakshmi is a published author. Her notable works include:

Both books were released by VIT Chancellor Mr. G. Viswanathasn and received byformer Minister Ma Foi K. Pandiarajan. The first copies of the books were ceremonially purchased by her mother and mother-in-law. Awards and Recognition over the years, Varalakshmi has been honored with several prestigious awards, including:

  • Bharathi Award from Mr. Ma Foi K. Pandiaraja
  • Tamil Sangam Sirantha Kavingar Viruthu
  • Mr. Nalakannu Ayya gave his Pen as an award
