Assin Godstime Oghenekparobo (born March 3, 1990) is a Nigerian writer, journalist, historian, legal professional, and columnist. He is known for his work as a novelist, playwright, poet, and television/radio commentator. Assin briefly served as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Education in Edo State from 2023 to 2024 before voluntarily resigning to focus on his private endeavors.
Early Life
[edit]Assin Godstime Oghenekparobo was born on March 3, 1990, in Eghudu village, located in the present-day Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. His parents were of Urhobo extraction. His father, one of the earliest educated Urhobo people, ensured his children received proper education and upbringing. His mother was a petty trader and farmer. Assin's father passed away in 1999, and his mother in 2018.[1]
Education
[edit]Assin pursued higher education at two institutions:
- University of Benin, Benin City
- Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, where he studied law
He also holds a certificate in Journalism from reputable institutions in Nigeria.
Literary Career
[edit]Assin began his writing career at a young age, publishing his first book in 2005 at the age of 15. Since then, he has authored numerous books, including:[2][1]

Assin is credited with inventing Nigeria's only ethnic Current Affairs publication, titled "Urhobo Current Affairs". His books have been approved for use in secondary school education in several Nigerian states, including Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Akwa-Ibom, Kaduna, and Ebonyi. His works have also been adopted in other African countries such as Ghana and Kenya.[2]
Assin's literary works have been reviewed in leading Nigerian newspapers, including Vanguard, Guardian, The Nation, and The Sun.
Business Ventures
[edit]Assin is the Chief Executive Officer of Pen-Digital Nigeria Publishers, a publishing firm headquartered in Benin City, Nigeria.[2]
Awards and Recognitions
[edit]Throughout his career, Assin has received numerous awards and recognitions, including:
- Lagos State Government Prize for Literature
- Edo State Most Creative Writer award
- Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) honor in 2022 (noted as the youngest recipient of this prestigious honor from the largest ethnic nationality in Delta State)
- Recognition as the Urhobo best historian
Public Service
[edit]Assin served as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Education to the Edo State Government from 2023 to 2024, before voluntarily resigning to focus on his private business interests.[6]
