The Argylle film series consists of spy action-comedy movies, developed by Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar in collaboration with Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen.[1] The plot centers around the espionage adventures of secret service Agent Aubrey Argylle, as well as a fictional version of Elly Conway who is depicted as the author of the titular novels. Starring Henry Cavill and Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead roles, the movies are developed by Matthew Vaughn in collaboration with Apple Studios for exclusive release on Apple TV+.
The first film was met with negative critical reception, while it fared well at the box office. Its sequels are in various stages of development, including ...
Origin
[edit]In October 2023, Vaughn acknowledged that the novels will have relation to the films in the form of meta connections.[2] Real person/author... (will add details later)[3]
Inspired by watching Romancing the Stone with his daughters, the filmmaker stated that they had asked him to make a movie that they could enjoy with him. Vaughn later clarified that the novel and the movie were developed concurrently, comparing the process to when he developed the Kick-Ass and Kingsman franchises in collaboration with others; stating that he received the script, followed by Conway's manuscript, and he merged the concepts in what is intended to be a meta-oriented experience.[4] In February 2024, it was revealed that the previously stated origins of the novel were a part of marketing, with the real authors of the Argylle novel commissioned by Matthew Vaugh; co-written in a collaborative effort by Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen.[5]
