Apples, Oranges, Lemons & Limes is a 2022 North American film written & directed by Pat Mitchell and produced by Ashley LaRue. Pat Mitchell also serves as cinematographer, editor, sound engineer and producer of the film as well. It has a runtime of 45 minutes.[1]
Plot
[edit]A timid young man chronically suffers from social anxiety. At a party, an unlikely encounter inspires a night of drinking, joy and romance.
Development
[edit]"I remember thinking about two people walking down a street drunk and wanted to put a hypothetical story behind it. We also tend to have a stigma against young adults drinking. I think lots of movies portray younger generation drinkers as irresponsible and reckless. I thought it would be nice to show it as a celebration once again and put some delight into that rather than the darker takes on the topic. I was a young drinker and didn't have much recklessness going around. I wanted to bring those feelings I had on screen." - Pat Mitchell[2]
Production
[edit]Apples, Oranges, Lemons & Limes was filmed in five weekend nights with all female crew.
The film was shot with no permits involved. The minimal guerrilla production took place in neighbors of Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres & Punta Gorda (Southwest Florida) between 11pm - 2am. Deeply inspired by Neo-Noir and French New Wave, it explores themes of social anxiety, missed connections, growing pains, positive alcohol consumption, friendship, love, love, empathy, women's empowerment, good consciousness and much more.
Reception
[edit]The main cast all gained awards and nominations in best acting. Critics agree, Lead duo Calvin Waldau and Skye Marie Sena gave a powerhouse performance winning over 20 awards respectively. The supporting cast Juan Rodriguez Leon and Valeria Di Babbo gained attention of their own earning over 10 awards each.
It received 12 out of 15 total nominations at the Triborough Film Festival, granting the film an Astor Award for Overall Excellence at in 2023. [3] Under Mitchell's direction and editing, the film won over 340 awards worldwide in its 2-year film festival cycle, granted one of the best directorial and editorial feats of all time.
