Anna Stewart (born 1 May 1987) is a British journalist based in the London bureau of CNN International. She is a correspondent that covers topics related to international business, travel and the British royal family. She is the current host of Decoded.[1] and CNN Marketplace Europe[2] and is a regular contributor to CNN's business programmes Quest Means Business, First Move with Julia Chatterley and CNN Business Traveller.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Stewart is the daughter of Sir John Simon Watson Stewart of Balgownie, 6th Bt. and Dr. Catherine Stewart Bond. She spent her early life in Chiswick, West London before attending Wycombe Abbey.
In 2005 she was awarded an academic scholarship by the University of Oxford, where she read English Literature at St Edmund Hall college. In 2007 she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Whilst at Oxford she was awarded the Oxford Gibbs prize for distinguished academic performance.[4]
Career
[edit]Stewart began working as a production assistant at CNN International's London bureau in 2009. She progressed to the role of producer in 2012 before leaving CNN International in 2014 for a role as assistant producer for CNBC's breakfast programming, Squawk Box Europe, Worldwide Exchange and Closing Bell.
On her return to CNN International in 2015, Stewart was promoted to the position of reporter, specialising international business, technology, politics and the British royal family.[5]
In May 2018 Stewart was involved in the coverage of the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and former actress Meghan Markle reporting mostly from Windsor Castle for CNN, CNN International and HLN[6]. She has also covered the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Coronation of King Charles III.[7]
In 2019 she co-anchored the United Kingdom general election from CNN's headquarters in Atlanta, breaking down the results on the magic wall through the night.[8] In response to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Stewart launched The Good Stuff, a strand of 60 second reports focusing on positive news stories.
Stewart is a regular attendee and speaker on the international conference circuit, including at CES, Mobile World Congress, Viva Tech, Web Summit, GITEX, World Air Transport Summit, Watches and Wonders, and the World Government Summit.[9]
In 2021 Stewart launched the first series of Decoded a CNN produced show on trends in technology[10]. The show is predominantly shot from Dubai and covers fields ranging from the metaverse[11], cryptocurrency, wearables, AI[12] and autonomous vehicles[13]
Personal life
[edit]In April 2022, on the banks of the River Thames, Stewart became engaged to David Bairstow, a former Parachute Regiment officer. The couple married on 13 May 2023 at Holy Trinity Church Salcombe in Devon.[14][15]
