The Andrea Margutti Trophy (Italian: Trofeo Andrea Margutti) is a kart racing competition organised by Parma Motorsport and sanctioned by the CIK-FIA, taking place at South Garda Karting, Lonato.
Founded in 1990, the event is contested by drivers in six FIA classes. Notable winners of the Andrea Margutti Trophy include Formula One drivers Giancarlo Fisichella, André Lotterer, Robert Kubica, Charles Pic, Daniil Kvyat and Logan Sargeant.
History
[edit]Early years (1990–2000)
[edit]The Andrea Margutti Trophy was founded in 1990. Giancarlo Fisichella won four of the first five editions in the primary direct-drive class, missing out on the 1993 title to Andrea Belicchi. He became the first champion to progress to Formula One in 1996. Sophie Kumpen became the third woman in history to win a major international karting competition with her victory in the Formula A class in 1995.
André Lotterer won consecutive junior titles in 1995 and 1996, and became the first champion to win an auto racing FIA World Championship in 2012. Robert Kubica won the junior class in 1999.
