Andis Company is a renowned American manufacturer specializing in handheld tools for trimming, cutting, curling, straightening, and drying hair.[1][2] Founded in 1922 by Mathew Andis Sr, the company has remained family-owned and operated, spanning four generations. Headquartered in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, Andis has established a global presence, distributing products in over 90 countries.[3]
The Andis Story
[edit]Mathew Andis, originally a toolmaker at Mitchell Motor Car Company in Racine, Wisconsin, ventured into entrepreneurship by establishing Andis O M Manufacturing around 1920-21, in partnership with John Oster and Henry Meltzer. The collaboration was short-lived, leading each to form their own companies: Meltzer founded Master Appliance/MAMCO, Oster started the John Oster Company, and Andis created the Andis Clipper Company, officially incorporated in 1922.[4] [3]
The company's early success was attributed to its electric clipper, which was smaller, faster, and more efficient than existing models, gaining rapid acceptance among American barbers. As the company grew, Andis expanded its operations. The company quickly outgrew the basement and moved to a 16,000 square foot industrial building. Today, Andis employs over 400 people at its 160,000 square foot facility in Sturtevant, Wisconsin.[3]
Product Innovations
[edit]Throughout its history, Andis has been at the forefront of innovation in the grooming industry. In October 2022, the company launched the cordless reVITE™ Clippers, featuring removable and adjustable blades designed for versatility and performance. Following this, in October 2023, Andis introduced the Explorer Series trimmers, including the Body & Groin Grooming Trimmer and the Beard & Body Grooming Turbo Trimmer, aimed at enhancing personal grooming experiences.[5][6]
