Ana I Caño-Delgado |
---|
Ana I. Caño-Delgado (Madrid, 1972) is a Spanish biologist specialised in the study of plant molecular genetics and biochemistry. She is currently a Researcher at the Spanish National Research Council(CSIC) and Distinguished Researcher at the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) where she is head of the research group Brassinosteroid signalling in plant development and adaption to climate change.[1], a frontrunner in the identification of spatiotemporally resolved signalling mechanisms in plants[2]. Some of the most important contributions of his group have been the identification of essential factors for the function of stem cells and plant vascular cells, which has allowed changing the current paradigm of molecular signalling mediated by plant brassinosteroids in plants[3].
Caño-Delgado has directed her research towards finding sustainable solutions in agriculture to combat climate change [4]. In fact, she is currently supported by the European Research Council (ERC) to transfer his scientific findings to cereal crops for the benefit of agriculture and food security.Ana
Scientific education and career
[edit]Ana I. Caño-Delgado graduated in Biology at the University of Alcalá in 1996 and received her PhD in Biology at the John Innes Centre of the University of East Anglia (Norwich, UK) in 2001. After finishing her PhD, she continued her research career with postdoctoral studies at the Salk Institute (La Jolla, USA) funded by the Human Frontier Science Program Organisation (HFSPO). She later joined the CRAG with a Ramón y Cajal contract.
Since 2009 she is a CSIC researcher leading the research group Brassinosteroid signalling in plant development and adaption to climate change. She has also received training in entrepreneurship at ESADE and the Business Haas School of the University of Berkeley (USA). Since 2019 he coordinates the Plant Development and Cell Signalling Programme at CRAG.
