Recording
[edit]Speaking of the albums title track, lead vocalist and guitarist Lila Ramani said "AMAMA is dedicated to my namesake, my grandmother, whose voice is sampled throughout the song," further adding, "A video sent to me over WhatsApp of her singing originally inspired the melody and ethos of the song, from which I built its glitchy, warped foundation. It’s a love song!"[2]
Critical Reception
[edit]The title track 'AMAMA' was described by Adam Reeve of Dead Good Music as having "no right to be as catchy as it is. It has all the tools to be a really polarising, mind-melting tune, but Crumb make it work. Bolstered by steady drums and basslines that do their own thing, the song feels like a walk through someplace new – you have no idea what’s around, but everything feels like home. Led wonderfully by the wandering vocals of Lila Ramani, I wouldn’t mind being lost in it forever."[3]
Speaking of 'Dust Bunny', Steven Ward of Grimy Goods said "Against a smattering of breakbeat percussion and haunting electronica, it draws you in like many a Crumb track might: with a dually melancholic but beckoning lyricism that’s given life to Ramani’s breathy murmurs."[4]
