He holds the Liao-Cho Innovation Endowed Chair and is a professor in both the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. Bayen is also a Faculty Scientist in Mechanical Engineering at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research primarily focuses on control, optimization, and machine learning with applications in large-scale transportation and mobility systems.
