Early Life
[edit]Albert Leveille Brooks was born on February 23, 1952. He grew up in a French Catholic community in a very poor household. Six family members lived in a two-bedroom house, and he didn't experience his first shower until high school. His grandparents were all from Quebec.[1]
Personal Life
[edit]Brooks is married to Kay U. Brooks and has re-married to Laura. He has five children, two of whom are lawyers graduating from Stanford Law School and Michigan Law School, and one with an MBA from Harvard Business School. At least three of them, Tess Knightbrook, Meegan Brooks, Skylar Grove, are married. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had a surgery (radical prostatectomy) in April, 2016. His mother celebrated her 105th birthday on the 30th of November, 2018, and passed away shortly after.
Education and Early Career
[edit]Brooks received his MD degree from the University of Chicago and initially pursued a career as an ophthalmologist. He wrote dozens of scientific papers on eye diseases and eye surgery, taught eye surgery at Emory University, and was on the clinical faculty at UCLA while practicing in Los Angeles.
Trading Career
[edit]Brooks transitioned to a career in trading over 30 years ago. He began trading with a $100,000 account in 1987, just before the market crash. On the day of the crash, he had a large short position in the S&P futures, which he closed before going to work due to his full surgery schedule. Had he kept the position, he estimated he would have made $400,000 (equivalent to about $1 million today).
Contributions to Trading
[edit]Brooks has shared his trading techniques on four continents, lectured at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, regularly speaks at MoneyShow and TradersExpo conferences, and has taught tens of thousands of traders. He has authored several books and developed the Brooks Trading Course, which includes 209 videos and 109 hours of content. His books and course materials have been translated into multiple languages.
His notable publications include:

Brooks also runs a live trading room, providing live commentary on the price action of E-mini S&P futures.
Philosophy and Teaching

He advocates for a meticulous and informed approach to trading, aiming to equip traders with the skills to compete with the best in the world. He underscores the seriousness of trading, viewing it as a means to improve lives and help families.
