Aeroflot Flight 466 was a passenger flight within the Mineralnye Vody – Ashgabat – Tashkent route,[1] which on December 23, 1958, the Ilyushin Il-14 operated by the Uzbekistani group of Aeroflot, crashed during its approach to Tashkent, killing all 21 occupants.[2][3]

[edit]The aircraft operating SU466 was a Ilyushin Il-14M, operated by the Uzbek group of Aeroflot, with the serial number being 6342007 and was registered CCCP-61663.[1][2] Manufactured in 1956, it was then delivered to Aeroflot on March 28, 1958,[1] which it had logged about 3295 hours at the time of the accident.[1]
Crew
[edit]The crew had Bagdasarov V. Semenovich, as the pilot in command, First Officer Ratov A. Efimovich, Flight Engineer Vorobyov V. Vasilyevich, Radio Operator Kuks S. Aleksandrovich, Navigator Shepilov S. Nikolaevich, and a flight attendant.[3]
Description
[edit]The Il-14 Airliner departed from Ashgabat International Airport ta 21:15PM MST, with snowy weather. The flight then received instructions to lower, then received the weather report.[3] The plane then passed the barrier, the aircraft began descent after the gear was lowered with instructions from Tashkent Tower, the captain then reported that they can see the runway, and requested landing. The controller approved the decision for the landing.[3] The aircraft then had a go-around, which on the second approach, the crew failed to locate the runway,[2][3] which then tried to go-around again, which the flight was only 100-150m (328ft-492ft), which the aircraft suddenly banked right and stalled into a field.[1][3]
Investigation
[edit]The safety board had started an investigation privately, and had then determined for the cause to be pilot error[2].
