Life
[edit]Born in Queens, New York, Collins was trained as a classical pianist at an early age.[2] Collins was convinced to pick up the bass guitar by his brother Ethan[3], an accomplished guitarist, and the two of them joined with neighbors Dave Alvin and Mike Caldarella to form White Trash[1] which had a Billboard Top 100 hit with "Apple Pie" in the summer of 1991, and was featured in heavy rotation on MTV[4]
After White Trash, Collins played in several smaller bands spanning genres from punk to hip-hop before being recruited to play bass for Murphy's Law in 1998.[2]
In the mid-2010's, Collins formed Butterbrain, featuring current and former members of White Trash, Giftshop, Hash, Inspecter 7, Hash, and The Tommy Lasorda Experience.[5] After an EP and a full length album, they connected with Angelo Moore of Fishbone[6] and are at present preparing to release their third studio album, produced by and featuring Moore[7]
