A New Kind of Wilderness is a 2024 documentary directed by Silje Evensmo Jacobsen. It premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2024 and won a World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary.

Plot

The documentary follows a Norwegian family, parents Maria and Nik Payne and their four children, Ronja, Freja, Falk and Ulv, living a rual life on a sustainable farm.

Tragedy strikes when mother-blogger Maria passes away, and the Nik is left to relocate himself and his children to a larger city, no longer able to afford life on the farm.

The movie traces the process of family's transition and Nik's struggle to honor Maria's wishes for her children in the wake of her death. [1]
