The next Singaporean presidential election is scheduled to be held by 2029, following the expiration of the current six year term.
Background
[edit]The president of Singapore is the head of state of the Republic of Singapore. The incumbent president is Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam who took office on 14 September 2023.[1]
Eligibility
[edit]Candidates are required to meet either the public or private sector requirements, as stated in the constitution.[2] The election will be an open election as not more than five terms has elapsed since a member of each ethnic community has occupied the office, a system introduced by constitutional amendments in 2016.[3]
