The next Singaporean presidential election is scheduled to be held by 2029, following the expiration of the current six year term.

Background

The president of Singapore is the head of state of the Republic of Singapore. The incumbent president is Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam who took office on 14 September 2023.[1]

Eligibility

Candidates are required to meet either the public or private sector requirements, as stated in the constitution.[2] The election will be an open election as not more than five terms has elapsed since a member of each ethnic community has occupied the office, a system introduced by constitutional amendments in 2016.[3]
