Shooting
[edit]On the 29th of March 2024, 33-year-old Bogdan Lalovic parked close by to the Jakab and Komor Square Synagogue in Subotica, Serbia. Armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun that was legally purchased 2 years prior to the shooting, with 4 loaded magazines in his jackets pockets the gunman opened fire at the synagogues windows and residents outside. Nobody was hit by his bullets, Lalovic then made his way through the main entrance of the synagogue which 44 worshippers were inside, the gunman who had just entered the main room saw 3 Serbian-Jewish men ducked down behind a pew, Lalovic fired at these 3 men, killing 1 and then rushing into a hallway to reload. He then saw a Croatian-Jewish man attempting to escape from the synagogues main entrance, the same entrance Lalovic entered from.
The gunman shot 6 bullets at the man, before approaching him and shooting him once in the back of his head, killing him. Lalovic then ran back into the main room firing at the pews and walls, he then spotted another Serbian-Jewish man who was next to a pew. Lalovic shot the man twice, once in the shoulder and the second bullet hitting him in the thigh, the man survived. Lalovic would spend another 2 minutes in the synagogue which by the time most worshippers had escaped.
Lalovic then sprinted out of the synagogue passing by the Croatian-Jewish man he shot dead earlier, when approaching his car he pointed his gun at a White Serbian woman, Lalovic spared her and then put his jacket into the back seat of his car, then entering and driving off from the synagogue. He would drive for another 7 minutes possibly planning to attack a second synagogue, he was then confronted by 2 police units and Lalovic surrendered calmly.
