On November 1, 2023, an air ambulance Learjet 35A crashed at the Cuernavaca Airport in Mexico after a runway excursion on runway 20, killing all four people on board.[1] The aircraft was destroyed instantly after the plane crashed into the ground and caught fire, causing it to explode.
Aircraft
[edit]The aircraft involved was a Learjet 35A manufactured in 1980 in Mexico registered XA-IRE with the MSN 35A-354. The aircraft was a business jet being operated as an air ambulance by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance.[2]
Passengers and crew
[edit]The passengers and crew on the flight consisted of two pilots, a co-pilot and a pilot as well as two passengers, a doctor and a paramedic.[3] The number of people on board the plane was incorrectly announced as five crew.[4] The victims were identified as pilot Gerardo Álvarez, co-pilot Roberto Manzano, doctor Lilian Reséndiz and paramedic Mario León.[5]
Crash
[edit]On November 1, 2023, the aircraft touched down and was landing on runway 20. The crew of the aircraft initiated the breaking procedures but the plane could not stop, causing it to overrun runway 20 causing it to go into a steep embankment. The aircraft crashed into bushes on a hill in a wooded, mountainous area[6] at 2:15 p.m. local time, causing the plane to catch fire and explode multiple times, burning and killing all four people on board the plane. The crash was not reported until 2:19 p.m. local time and rescue teams arrived 20 minutes after the crash.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
