Formation
[edit]164 Field Regiment was raised on 01st October 1963 at Madhopur by Lieutenant Colonel (later Brigadier) Shivdev Singh,Vishisht Seva Medal with a battery each from 8 Field Regiment, 42 Field Regiment and 63 Field Regiment. The unit has participated in various operations since its raising.

Operations
[edit]The Regiment has taken part in the following operations:-

1. | Operation Riddle | 1965 | The Regiment was instrumental in capture of the strategic Hajipir Pass where it fired over 4000 rounds. |
2. | Operation Cactus Lily | 1971 | The Regiment was in direct support of 85 Infantry Brigade and was tasked to capture the ‘PARBAT ALI’ feature near Naya Chor (Pakistan). The Veer Ahirs manhandled the guns over a distance of 65 Kilometers in the absence of roads and tracks in order to provide effective fire support to the advancing Infantry Brigade. The unit was also bestowed with the honour title ‘PARBAT ALI’ for the exemplary bravery displayed during the operation . |
3. | Operation Rakshak | 1990 - 1993 | The Regiment provided accurate and devastating firepower and fired over 3500 rounds across the Line of Control. It also became the first Artillery Regiment to be awarded with the 'Chief of Army Staff Citation' (Keran Machhal Kupwara) for firing in counter insurgency operations in 1993. |
4. | Operation Vijay | 1997-1999 | The Regiment provided effective and accurate fire support during the operation. The unit fired 5009 rounds across the line of control to make the operation successful. |
5. | Operation Meghdoot | 2011-2013 | The Regiment was deployed in the highest Battle Field where it occupied gun areas and observation posts all along the glaciated region. Despite the prevalent cease fire, the unit maintained a high standard of operational preparedness and carved a niche for itself during the deployment. |

2. 164 Field Regiment (Parbat Ali) for the unparalleled dedication, selfless service to the nation and sterling performance in all spheres during the tenure in Uri sector from 1990-1993, the unit was awarded Chief of Army Staff Unit Citation on 15 January 1993 during the Army Day Parade at Delhi.
3. 164 Field Regiment (Parbat Ali), for its sterling and commendable performance in all spheres in peace period from 01 October 13 to 31 August 18 was awarded with 'General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command Unit Citation'.
