İOKİ

İOKİ is a chain of Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurants and was founded in 2011 by DOME group.[1]It combines traditional Japanese cuisine with the vibrant flavors of Peruvian ingredients. The fusion of these two culinary traditions known as  "Nikkei" cuisine blends elements like fresh seafood, ceviche, and sushi to present a cross-cultural exchange between Japan and Peru.[2]

History

[edit]

It all started with two college students trying out Japanese and Peruvian restaurants in New York City. On one of their culinary adventures they met a very talented Japanese chef named Okita San[1]. Then, after moving back to Istanbul, Turkey, the pair invited the chef to join them in the opening of İOKİ. Upon coming to Istanbul, Okita San studied the Turkish cuisine to ensure that the dishes presented at İOKİ would be suitable for the Turkish palate. İOKİ’s menu has been created with the highest quality of local ingredients.

In 2015, İOKİ was honored with the award for ‘Best Asian Cuisine in Istanbul.’ Also in 2018 it received the ‘İncili Gastronomi Award’.[3]

Locations

[edit]

İOKİ now operates under different concepts, including “İOKİ NAU,[4]” “House of Sushi” and “İOKİ on the Beach[5]”. Locations in Istanbul include Kandilli, Ulus, Yeniköy, and Karaköy. İOKİ also runs within the Gümrük Hotel in Urla, İzmir. During the summer it operates at the Mandarin Oriental in Bodrum as “Kurochan by İOKİ”[6] and offers seasonal services at Fly-In Beach in Çeşme, İzmir.
