Dele Belgore
Muhammad Dele Belgore (born 25 June 1961) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician. He was the 2011 Action Congress of Nigeria's (ACN) Kwara State governorship candidate in the 2011 Kwara State gubernatorial election. However he lost out to the PDP's Governorship candidate, Abdulfatah Ahmed who became the Governor of Kwara state.[1] Belgore is a native of Ilorin in Kwara state.
Early life and education
[edit]Belgore was born to Lt. Justice Mahmud Babatunde Belgore, a former Chief Judge of the Feredal High Court[2][3][4] and Alhaja Maryam Alarape Belgore, a former British-trained nurse and oil merchant.[5][6] Belgore attended the Nigerian Law School in 1985.[7]
Career
[edit]Belgore is one of the pioneers of Alternative dispute resolution in Nigeria.[8][9] He is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)[10] and the co-founder of Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe and Belgore.[11]
Political career
[edit]Belgore was elected as the flagbearer of the Action Congress of Nigeria in 2011 where he lost to the eventual winner, Abdulfatah Ahmed. He moved to the Peoples Democratic Party in 2013 where he ran for the Gubernatorial election and lost in 2014.[12][13]
He returned to the All Progressives Congress where he rejected an appointment into the party's governing council.[14][15] withdrew from running in the gubernatorial primaries under the All Progressives Congress in 2019 and supported the eventual winner of the election, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.[16]
