Constantinople 1918 Konstantiniyye is a photography book prepared by Ali Serim and published in 2015 by Denizler Kitabevi, Istanbul.[1] The book includes an introduction by Professor Nur Bilge Criss, a expert on the occupation of Istanbul, whose book Istanbul under Allied Occupation 1918-1923 is considered the major reference on the subject.[2] This book offers a visual and historical exploration of the events, political intrigues, and societal changes that shaped Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) in 1918, during the final years of the Ottoman Empire.

Ali Serim purchased this album of photographs decades ago,[3] recognizing its historical significance. The French officer documented the city’s architecture and people, capturing fascinating scenes from everyday social life while highlighting the need for extensive restoration of the old city.
The Ottoman Empire was ended by WWI,[4] and those concerned were unable to preserve Constantinople in the condition. The photographs reveal the city’s deteriorating state, reflecting the neglect during this period of upheaval and transition. Through this album, Serim showcases the city’s history, preserving a visual account of Constantinople.
