Colbie Young is an American football wide receiver for the Georgia Bulldogs. He previously played for the Lackawanna Falcons and the Miami Hurricanes.
Early life and high school
[edit]Young grew up in Binghamton, New York, and attended Binghamton High School, where he played basketball and football.[1] He was named first-team Class AA all-state as a senior after scoring 14 touchdowns in eight games played.[2]
College career
[edit]Young began his collegiate career at Lackawanna College.[3] As a freshman, he caught 24 passes for 472 yards and nine touchdowns.[4] After his freshman year Young transferred to Miami over offers from Florida State, Tennessee, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and Pittsburgh.[5]
Young became a starter at wide receiver for the Miami Hurricanes midway through his first season with the team.[6] He finished the season with 22 receptions for 367 yards and led the team with five touchdown receptions.[7][8]
On December 9, 2023, Young announced that he would be entering the transfer portal.[9] On December 23, Young decided to transfer to the University of Georgia for his final year of eligibility.[10]
Personal life
[edit]On the morning of October 8, 2024, Young was arrested and charged with battery and assault of an unborn child after he was found to have injured his pregnant ex-girlfriend when she visited him.[11][12] He was released that afternoon after posting bail, which had been set at $2,500.[12][13] On October 9, 2024, Georgia coach Kirby Smart announced that Young would be suspended "until this legal matter is resolved."[14]
