Chavar (Persian: چوار)[a] is a city in the Central District of Chavar County, Ilam province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district.[4]

[edit]The city is populated by Arkavazi Kurds.[5]
Population
[edit]At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 5,574 in 1,080 households, when it was in the former Chavar District of Ilam County.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 5,775 people in 1,333 households.[7] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 5,831 people in 1,562 households.[2]
In November 2019, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Chavar County. Chavar was transferred to the new Central District as the county's capital.[4]
