In 1666, the Mughal army took control of the northern region of Chattogram. Later, under the leadership of Murtaza Khan, the Mughal forces crossed the Karnaphuli River and positioned themselves on the northern bank of the Shankha River. The responsibility of guarding the area’s borders was assigned to two prominent officials, Adu Khan and Lakhan Singh, along with two Hazari Mansabdars. It is said that the area was named Dohazari after these two Hazari Mansabdars.

Subsequently, two forts were constructed in Dohazari. During the British colonial period, an airbase was also built in Dohazari.

In 1971, towards the end of the Bangladesh Liberation War, a fierce battle took place in Dohazari between the Pakistani army and the freedom fighters. The Pakistani forces were defeated in this battle. During the conflict, the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra (Independent Bangladesh Radio Station) was relocated from Chattogram city to Dohazari. This event played a significant role in the liberation struggle and the eventual independence of Bangladesh.
