Chaitanya Sayaji Wadekar (born 17 October 1994), also known as Chaitanya Maharaj Wadekar is an Indian Internet personality and spiritual leader and Marathi kirtankar known for his teachings and insights in spirituality and personal development. He has a dedicated following and helps people on their spiritual journeys.

Early life

Chaitanya Maharaj Wadekar was born on October 17, 1994, in Bhamboli village, P.une district. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, he was exposed to the teachings of Sant literature from an early age. He completed his secondary education at Sant Dnyaneshwar School in Alandi, where he also pursued studies in Sant literature.[1][2]

Chaitanya Maharaj has become prominent figure among the youth in Maharashtra. He has gained immense popularity through his motivational speeches and teachings, which he shares on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. With millions of followers, he is recognized as a dynamic kirtankar, dedicated to inspiring and educating the younger generation. In addition to his preaching, he is the founder and president of the Madalsa Warkari Santha, which aims to promote Warkari saints and literature.[1]

Controversies

In July 2024, Chaitanya Wadekar Maharaj stems from the alleged wrongful detention of his brother, Pramod Wadekar, by the Chakan Police. On July 29, while Pramod was teaching at his design institute, police officers reportedly took him into custody without any prior notice or formal complaint. Allegations include the officers threatening him, seizing his mobile phone, and transporting him to the police station on a two-wheeler.

Chaitanya Wadekar Maharaj condemned the police's actions, emphasizing the lack of a complaint or identifiable complainant upon his arrival at the station. The police later claimed their visit was prompted by student complaints regarding threats made at the institute, which they acknowledged as a misunderstanding. In October 2024, Chaitanya Maharaj Wadekar was arrested for his involvement in illegally excavating a road near his residence Mahanlunge. This unauthorized digging, which included creating potholes on company roads and damaging gas pipelines, raised safety concerns for local residents and commuters.[4] The complaint, filed by Ajit Ramdas Patil at the Mahanlunge MIDC police station, the manager of a nearby company, suggesting a disregard for community well-being. His arrest occurred on October 2nd at midnight, along with his partners—Amol Sayaji Wadekar, Pramod Sayaji Wadekar, and Rishikesh Shashikant Suryawanshi—who also face scrutiny for their actions. As community reactions unfold, disapproval is growing, revealing a divide between his supporters and detractors.[5]
