Cesar Chavez is a Filipino government official and former media executive who currently serves as the Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration. He was appointed to the position on September 5, 2024.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Chavez was born in 1965 in San Jose, Camarines Sur. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Adamson University in 1989. He later obtained his Master in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines in 2000. In 2008, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Peace and Security from Bicol University.[2]
Career

[edit]Chavez had an extensive career in the media industry before his government service. He served as the Assistant Vice President and Director for News and Public Affairs at Manila Broadcasting Company, one of the Philippines' largest radio networks. Additionally, he was the General Manager of the National Broadcasting Corporation/DZAR, where he oversaw the station's operations and programming.[3]
Government service
[edit]Chavez has held various positions in government service. He served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Commission from 1998 to 2000 and Commissioner-at-Large of the same body from 1995 to 1998. From 2014 to 2015, he worked as Assistant General Manager of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).[4]
In the transportation sector, he served as Assistant Secretary for Rail from September 2016 to February 2017, and later as Undersecretary for Railways from July 2022 to December 2023 under the Department of Transportation (DOTr).[5]
Before his appointment as PCO Secretary, Chavez served as the Presidential Assistant for Strategic Communications under the Office of the President.[6]
Cesar Chavez took his oath as the acting Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office on September 5, 2024.[7]
Personal life
[edit]Chavez, born circa 1965, hails from San Jose, Camarines Sur. He is married and has four children.[8]
