In China, Zhejiang University has one of the best traditions of mathematical research, which is known as the Zhe School (of Mathematics) and the Chen-Su School (of Differential Geometry; in memorial of mathematicians Su Buqing and Chen Jiangong).[3] For continuing keeping and developing such excellent tradition, the center was founded, and coupled with the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University.[citation needed]
Every year, many mathematicians and scientists from all over the world visit or do research at the center.[citation needed]
The institute holds tens of permanent researcher positions or professorships. Many mathematicians from all over the world have worked in or visited the institute:
Qiushi Academy (1897-1901) → Qiushi University (1901-1902) → Chekiang University (1902-1903) → Chekiang Higher Institutes (1903-1914) → (closure) → National Third Chungsan University (1927-1928) → National Chekiang University (1928-1950)→ Chekiang University (1950-1990) → Zhejiang University (current)
