Why is Itzhak Perlman, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Itzhak_Perlman , not listed on this page? I may not understand what the criteria are, but I couldn't tell from the violinists listed why Perlman would not be included.

I agree, what is the distinction between 'classical violinist' and 'violinist' ? Perlman is well-known for his classical recordings, but the article itself suggests he has played jazz violin; however he is listed as a 'classical violinist'. Similarly, Nigel Kennedy, who plays both classical and jazz/fusion, is listed as 'classical violinist'. I realise this is splitting hairs, but must 'classical violinists' exclusively record/play "classical" music? Or should those that involve themselves in different styles of playing be listed simply as 'violinists' ? Just a thought... -- Dlinga 08:28, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Violinist/fiddler

[edit]

Is the distinction between violinist and fiddler clear? I understand fiddler as a violinist in traditional musik or maybe some kinds of rock/fusion music - i.e. actually more of a genre. For now, I put the fiddler category as a subcategory to the violinist category. / Habj 12:38, 3 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
