Not all statues are monuments/memorials
[edit]I strongly oppose including Category:Statues as a subcategory of Category:Monuments and memorials because, well, not all statues are monuments/memorials. Statue says, "A statue is a free-standing sculpture in which the realistic, full-length figures of persons or animals are carved or cast in a durable material such as wood, metal or stone." Just because a free-standing sculpture depicts a person or animal does not mean the artwork serves as a monuments or memorial. Starting a discussion since another editor insists. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:58, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Statues are a type of monument. I don't understand how you don't think so. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Not true. Is Mago Hermano (Brother Wizard or Magician) a monument or memorial? No. Is Running Horses a monument or memorial? No. Is Three Figures a monument or memorial? No. I could keep going... ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:05, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Those are all sculptures (not statues) and if they are categorized as statues or monuments and memorials should be removed. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:09, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Aidan721 What makes you think works like Animals in Pools and Running Horses are sculptures but not statues? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:11, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Because the articles call them sculptures. –Aidan721 (talk) 21:15, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Right, because all statues are sculptures (but not all sculptures are statues). You're missing the point, which is that not all statues are monuments/memorials. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:17, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- None of those articles identify those pieces as statues. –Aidan721 (talk) 03:38, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

- Personally I'm inclined to oppose as well.★Trekker (talk) 21:41, 2 January 2024 (UTC)
- Opposing too, Another Believer points out the differences well. Randy Kryn (talk) 11:41, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
