I'm having trouble visualizing a lot of the songs in these categories as belonging in Category:Songs based on actual events... To clarify where I'm coming from, consider the following three classes of songs (imagine a Venn diagram if you will):

  1. Songs OF World War II (written or popular during the World War II era) that are also ABOUT World War II, broadly construed (e.g., "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition)
  2. Songs OF World War II (written or popular during the World War II era) that are NOT also about World War II (e.g., "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar")
  3. Songs NOT OF the World War II timeframe but that are ABOUT World War II (e.g., "Sink the Bismarck")

Songs in #3 go in Category:Songs '''about''' World War II; songs in #2 go in Category:Songs '''of''' World War II; songs in #1 should go in both, although I haven't bothered to do this.

Only songs in #1 and #3 are remotely based on real events. "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar" is not based on a real event. "Sentimental Journey" is not based on a real event. "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is not based on a real event; and so forth.

Generally, this probably applies to all the subcategories her, although I've only considered World War II. Considering whether I should pull the trigger on this or not. Herostratus (talk) 07:08, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
