RD1 requests on redirects
[edit]Lately I've seen redirects restored after a request for revision deletion on them; I do not see a point in doing this, as it gives admins an unnecessary click to access the page (aside from forcing noredirect on a browser link), and it's not a nuisance to me on ShortPages patrol, as the tag is temporary until an administrator decision. Am I missing an established consensus on this, or what are other editors' opinion on this? Jalen Folf (Bark[s]) 00:08, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Not aware of any preexisting consensus, and don't care either way myself. Moreover, I do not see a need to mandate things either way, no reason to make the process any more complicated than it has to be. 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:1DCA:26C1:EB3E:4315 (talk) 00:39, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- For me, maintaining the redirect for the benefit of readers is paramount, and avoiding the potential confusion caused for them by encountering a cryptic RD1 notice, plus an extra click for them, is worth any extra click by an admin. Have any admins complained about the problem you're describing here? Wikishovel (talk) 03:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- At the moment, I have not seen any issue from administrators. I'll leave this post open in the meantime in case an admin does see this thread on a whim. For the moment, I've seen the redirect break as a precedent set by Enterprisey's copyvio-revdel script, and have since had no issue with this. Jalen Folf (Bark[s]) 04:17, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Enterprisey: you haven't edited in a few months, but in case you'd care to comment, was this behaviour in User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js implemented by design? Thanks, Wikishovel (talk) 04:31, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I don't recall why the behavior was the way it was. I would recommend trying to locate an admin (or other user) who prefers the existing behavior and asking them whether they would mind; or if you can't find one, that itself is meaningful. - I find the implication that we need to break redirects for the convience of a single mouse click from an admin quite bizzare. For example, the page William Henry Hoover has recorded a total of 43 views in a single day- that's 43 extra clicks in a day versus 1 potential click. It's not like any revdelling admins would miss the notice after redirecting anyways, since it would be listed on Category:Requested RD1 redactions. It also clogs up the NPP backlog since IIRC when the copyvio notice is removed it considers it a redirect and kicks it back to the NPP queue, so we end up with redirects we can't patrol.
